Rated Battlegrounds in WoW Cataclysm
Written by WoW Cataclysm.

For years Arenas have been the only way for competitive PVP players to really get the items and excitement they expected. In WoW Cataclysm, we will have a chance to experience rated battlegrounds and this should really bring alot of excitement and fun back into World of Warcraft PvPers.

If you were around before any expansion, and had the joy of playing in premade teams versus other premade teams in Arathi Basin or Warsong Gulch, you know about the kind of excitement I’m talking about. There really is nothing like it, and Rated Battlegrounds in WoW Cataclysm will allow us to experience all again, and perhaps make it even much more fun than before with arena level loot and competitive and rated gameplay.

Here’s a inside look at what’s in store for rated battle grounds in Wow Cataclysm:

  • Rated Battlegrounds will be an alternative way to get arena points -yes that’s right, you finally have an alternative to playing arena.
  • Each week, one of the BG will be the Rated Battleground of the week. This was done in previous years with battlegrounds providing more honor.
  • Winning  battleground matches will improve your rating and give you points. Losing will not lower your rating. So no need to stress, I like it.
  • New PvP titles will be added, as your rating inceases you will also unlock higher titles. If you earned a PvP title you will keep it.
  • When a Battleground is rated for the week, its normal non-rated version will still be available. That means you can still play ultra-casually on your favorite battle ground during these weeks and not face the wrath of premade teams.
  • The amount of Arena Points will be limited to prevent grinding and ruining your life. I’m not sure about this rule – any serious player will get the same amount of arena points, which in the end negates any difference between skilled and not skilled. (if there is such a thing)
  • You will also earn guild level by playing these rated battlegrounds with your guildmates. This means we will see alot of guild teams, and so you better start making friends. I dont need to remind everyone how much of a raping it is when a premade team faces off against a pick-up team.

That’s the information we have so far about rated battlegrounds. It is a welcomed change, and especially when we start hearing more about these new battlegrounds in WoW Cataclysm, we will see exactly how fun it should be. At the very least class balance in WoW Cataclysm should take a breather with this implementation by allowing less viable classes and specs the chance to collect arena points.

    Hmm, battle ground of the week?
    There are 10man, 15, and 40man BGs dont u think the system is bad….
    I mean, a guild will have 25poeple on standby for an entire week during WSG weekly?

    in MY opinion they should make it independent, and make the guilds choose in which BG they will specialize in. Or just make the 10 and 15 man rated, they are the most fun anyway…
    Peace

    Awsome…But rated BGs should make the player lose points when he lose and Gain more when he wins.

    I hope this can be added as will:

    Players will Gain {Number of Points} by the killing blows he delt With Out healing.

    i agree for anything but arena i always Fail because of my partner miss something.

    to killer8:

    give points to people with most killing blows? You dont make use of your brain often i assume….
    ….im a DestroWarlock this could be VERY nice for me =D I do blasts of 8k within a second… so some frienly player is working his ass of to kill an enemy player… i walk by and POOFF, more points for me! No points for the guy that actualy killed the guy (assuming i just did the last 2k of the enemys health pool and killed the enemy)

    What about PvP healers? They dont get any or just little KB’s, while their effort is just as big!!

    Points should rather be decided by things linke Ninja-ing a flag, capping a base, DMG/Healing done and MOST of all stuff like Interupting enemys in spell casts (interupting enemy healers while killing his ally dps or other way around), gief more points to ppl who actualy fight close to a flag or base//punish idiots who are fighting in mid field (zomg newbs xD ) slowing down EFC’s, kicking some1 who’s doing the 8sec long flag clinking in AB & EotS and all other stuff that prevents ur enemy from winning…. with that said, this will aquire a very complicated game design for this to work… so probably my idea is not good aswell.

    But atleast its better then (quoted:)
    “The amount of Arena Points will be limited to prevent grinding and ruining your life. I’m not sure about this rule – any serious player will get the same amount of arena points, which in the end negates any difference between skilled and not skilled. (if there is such a thing)”
    that really sux balls Blizz… now all newb facerollers in BG will get epic sweets while they dont even deserve it! (but they allready fcked that up… every noob as epix now)

    lol-ing @ killer8 and apologizing for my bad english & spelling =)

    cant wait tho, cataclysm it all sounds cewl… but fix this Rated BG idea! =P
    Cheers!

    they should make it like it was before expansion packs lv 60 days but not soo hardcore but make it enough so it doesn’t ruin people and all the newbies can’t just go pvp and get all the epix

    i dont work in blizzard i was just saying..lol am a mage as well but its really annoying that you take points and all what you did is /cast flash heal rank 15 on some one to get your points i understand from what you said that getting points by killing blows is stupid and thats true lol am sorry .But why if i lost a bg i dont lose any rating this well allow noobs to get geard so easy.

    the only thing that make you get free epic is being a healer ever since tbc been the same and in WOTLK healers can manage to make dps such as Discipline priest…some times i dont know if its healing spec or its dps spec i see that healers like Discipline priest and resto druid shamys should be making less 20-40%less damage because they only HEAL just like people say its about arena and pve not about dueling and 1v1.

    and classes that can heal such as feral druids shadow priests shamans why in the WORLD they can heal good as a good healer i see them in BGs healing for 100% hp from 10% hp and they dont have any spell power in there gear this is just sick .In tbc that was not Viable were spell power and spell healing.

    i just hate the fact is being a healer i can get anything i want in PVP were a warrior or a rogue work so hard for one killing blow.

    @killer8 and flutsh

    i dont know why you guys think that noobs are gonna get all the gear since they dont lose any points by losing the BGs.
    Just wait a second and think, if you lose you wont get any points…. NO POINTS=NO GEAR. huh huh!!!! make sense?
    Beside if you guys are really “pros” and call others “noobs” then you shouldnt really worry about a “noob” having same gear as you, since you are a “pro” you can just out-skill them and kill them right!! UNLESS your “Proness” comes from the fact that your 17 and got lots of time on your hand to get gear and you simply kill the “noobs” by overgearing them which is probably the case.

    Points should only be awarded for wins not KBs, HKs, Flag Caps or anything else that goes on during the game. Get your premade and your strategy together and HKs, Flag Caps, playing D, gear and mostly team work will ultimately determine the winner. No more farming HKs FTW.

    As far losing points. It doesn’t really matter. Look at Arena now. You get rewarded same as a 1500 rated team (Arena points wise) even if all you do is lose 10 games.

    Oh and if there’s a cap it needs to be a very high one.

    How about this awarding points for wins/losses 50 for a win 20 for a loss capped and awarded at the end of week and capped by your BG rating so that the top rated BG groups get exactly the same as the top rated Arena groups. It’s fair that way. So that hardcore Arena players and rated BG players progress at the same rate.

    If you do both Arena and BGs you get the points from whatever is higher. Maybe a small bonus for doing both well?

    Honor system can be kept pretty much the same so that people who aren’t in a top flight Arena team or pvp guild can still progress just one season behind.

    I’m looking forward to rated BGs just so I don’t have to endure any more pug versus pug stupidity. Premade against premade you can actually get good games.

    All they need to do now is make skirmish arenas give honor. Then there pvp system will be perfect.

    This sounds like pure win. and tbh it’d be nice if everyone in pvp did have the same gear, i’d like to dive into a bg or arena match on level terms with someone who plays twice as much coz they have time… if they’re better than me i’ll still lose.

    And i have a very well geared warrior, i wouldn’t care if bliz handed out the same epics to everyone else. It’d take the grind out of the game and you wouldn’t have the 3 guys on your side in greens and blues getting 1 shotted by everyone else losing you the match.

    PvE should be a gear grind, those epics are cool. PvP shouldn’t.

    @really?
    you’re an idiot, as if lvling wasn’t easy enough in WOW u think ppl should get free gear too… STFU and GTFO this is a MMORPG, acquiring gear isn’t supposed to be easy and IMO, lvling is too easy also.
    @n0mad
    that wouldn’t really change much, plus skill/gear difference is almost always giant in skirmishes
    @Arenakilledrealpvp
    ur name alone makes me wanna eat you
    @NoWinsNoPoints
    you’re my fav person ever, i totally agree, people would stop BG-botting since they can sit there and get HKs and free honor while they are in the other room jacking off
    @thinkalittle
    totally agree.

    Full healer teams. How will they deal with that? for wsg, AB mabey even strand. Fortunatly 2 of my 4 80′s are possible healers. so that helps, but im think getting my rogue and warrior into pre mades will be hard unless its AV for rogue and mabey if my warrior is tank with lots of HP for wsg.

    I don’t think rated bg’s is a good idea.
    It’s a fun idea but i don’t think it’s doable.. you can organise arena teams.. 2/3/5 people but 5 is allready a pain. This is not like a raid and as i see it it just looks like another form of grinding..
    Sadly there’s really few information.. but i’ll be impressed if blizz can decently pull this off.

    i lik the idea but i hope u can get into rated bgs if not in a party..i donno about u but im the type of person who just wants to click join game without havin to worry about guild times or if im good anofe for the group etc but at the same time b able to get the best gear.. i dont have time for guilds cus i work alot and im sure im not the only one..

    I think that this is a great idea. I don’t have time to sit and do a ton of arena matches so the idea that I can get the gear is great. Anyone that complains “newbs will get epics” should learn that there is more to life than a game. The fact is I pay the same amount as anyone else, I dont pay that so that someone with twice as much free time as me can get the best arena gear and own me regardless of skill. Whats funny is the same people that are complaining that everyone will have the gear are the same people that say its to easy. Well… now its going to be more competitive. If you have actual skill you wont get owned and there wont be a huge gear difference to give you a retard player buffer. I think its great that blizzard is trying to give all of its customers an opportunity to use and see as much of the content they pay for as possible.

    I think it’s better build pvp in that way people meet people with same rank level.

    That way people not playing so much can fight against other at same rank level and pro player fight against other pro player with high rank.

    It’s just silly a high rank with best available gear spend his time fight down other people with not so good gear.

    @Everyone Getting upset over personal Opinions…

    Why you mad brah? Sorry I’m joking! seriously though, I see a lot of rage post on here because someone else has a different opinion. So what they don’t think you, as a healer in PvP, do anything but mash one button. So what someone thinks it should be this way or that. It’s a Game and this is a website used to discuses and provide information about the game. If they think you press one button, well you know personally their wrong.. so.. Don’t go swinging your e-pin around like your some amazing player. Just realize if they ever go against you, then your gonna win. None of these opinions on here are going to effect the way Blizzard does what they ALREADY have planned. That’s what the beta testers are for. If your a Beta tester, then by all means use what influence you have. If not, stop acting like you know everything. No one likes a a@% that can talk. ( kinda made my self laugh at that one ).

    Seriously, about said topic. I think rated BG’s will bring back that wonderful thing all of us vanilla players so enjoyed ( and if you didn’t well I’m not talking about you. )! Full BG fury with teams that do more then whine about how much you suck while crying in the corner of the base they couldn’t help defend. I personally missed running Warsong Gulch and Arathi Basin, WITH people that like to try even if they were losing or not. Kinda brings back memories of that 10 point resource win and loses in AB. Even the “OmG we got a Mid-Field Flag Fight, GoGo!”.

    With the way Cata is looking, I don’t think ( out of personal Opinion, which I’m entitled to have and keep as much as the next guy or girl ) the game could have ever been better.

    Vanilla Style, is the Only Win Style!

    I agree with lennon. I work two jobs and am opening my own business. I don’t have the time to be a guild or arena junkie, but I think I pay for and deserve access to the same content as kids and bums that just sit around and play all day, so that when I DO get the chance to play, I have the same opportunity to showcase skill as everyone else and be SO concerned with being drastically outgeared.

    I for one am looking forward to see how this idea of rated BG’s will play out. It is obviously a new aspect and so may well be tweaked over time with future patches.
    I hated life at level 80 in WoTLK as it bored the hell out of me. I never really liked arena which in my mind demanded very specific class pairing to find decent player groups.
    Dungeon running for badges with my casual game play was the best way of getting gear fast. However I find dungeons a real bore and have always played wow for its PvP since launch.
    Rated BG’s looks to be interesting for sure.
    I agree a lot with what ‘flutsh’ said about trying to form some way of awarding players who actually fight on flags and interrupt flag taking etc but penalize those who stand in entrance or fight in midfield/roads all day, although this could be very tricky to implement.
    Nothing wrong with newbs getting epics, I for sure don’t mind. As long as you know you worked hard for your own gear then thats what should matters, getting worked up about how quickly some newb got the same gear shouldn’t bug you.
    If they really are newbs and they manage to get the same gear as you then you should be confident that when it comes down to knowledge and skill of playing your class you will come out on top and win against them or be chosen for a team over them.
    Look forward to trying it all out.

    all this is is giving an alternative for arena for once, what im thinking is that you will get a certain rating for your win/loss and rank up (obviously), and say that the season 9 weapon requires a 1800 rating it could be either from your BG rating or your arena rating..
    this will bring importance (and fun) back into bgs, like in vanilla wow
