			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>In an interesting forum post today, Ghostcrawler the fun loving crab who owes us a moose (or a sea pony) posted a thread on the Cataclysm beta forums stating that your basically expendable. Stating that although your in the beta, when it comes to the class forums he is going to be &#8220;<em>fiercely protective of the quality of posts</em>&#8221; and gave the people  posting the qq nerd rage beta posts who are currently testing a stern warning <em>&#8220;If you keep making the kinds of threads that get locked, then you&#8217;ll be  removed from the beta and we will replace you with someone who can  provide intelligent feedback.</em>&#8221; In other words, those who got into beta provide the feedback they need you to do, instead of the current frustration otherwise your gonna get the boot and more grateful beta players are going to take your place.</p>

Welcome to the World of Warcraft: Cataclysm beta test! Patch notes  listed here are not comprehensive and will be changed throughout the  testing process.
General

<div id="rp_0"><strong>World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Beta Patch Notes</strong></p>
<p>Welcome to the World of Warcraft: Cataclysm beta test! Patch notes  listed here are not comprehensive and will be changed throughout the  testing process.</p>
<p><strong>General</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>The Alliance starting experience for worgen is available.  Venture through the cursed lands of Gilneas to discover your true path!  Currently the female worgen character is not available for testing.</li>
<li>The Horde starting experience for goblins is available.  Beginning on the Isle of Kezan in a goblin paradise, players will face a  treacherous road ahead!</li>
<li>The level cap for all characters is 83.</li>
<li>Players may use our Character Copy feature for copying  existing characters to beta realms, or may choose from high-level  pre-made template characters.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Zones</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Mount Hyjal and Vashj&#8217;ir, two new level 78-82 zones, are  available for testing. Deepholm, a new level 82-83 zone is available for  testing. Players may find their way to these zones by speaking with  temporary teleportation NPCs located in any major city.</li>
<li>The level ranges of Gilneas and the Lost Isles are in the  process of being adjusted slightly. Creature, quest, and quest reward  levels are all being altered so that players finish questing in these  zones roughly by level 12. Further fine tuning will continue in future  content updates.</li>
<li>Several zones have had quest maps integrated.</li>
<li>Eastern Kingdoms
<ul>
<li>Arathi Highlands, Blasted Lands, The Cape of Stranglethorn, Dun  Morogh, Duskwood, Elwynn Forest, Hinterlands, Loch Modan, Northern  Stranglethorn, Northshire, Redridge Mountains, Tirisfal Glades, Western  Plaguelands and Westfall are ready for testing.</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li>Kalimdor
<ul>
<li>Most zones in Kalimdor are available for testing, though work  continues on polishing the quest experience and flow, as well as zone  aesthetics.</li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Dungeons &amp; Raids</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Teleportation NPCs in Stormwind, Orgrimmar, and Dalaran can  transport players to any available new dungeons, including players who  are ghosts.</li>
<li>Blackrock Caverns, a new level 79-81 five-player dungeon,  is available for testing.</li>
<li>Throne of the Tides, a new level 79-81 five-player dungeon,  is partially available for testing.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Classes: General</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Ammo has been removed from the game.</li>
<li>The character levels at which classes gain new spells and  abilities have changed.</li>
<li>The glyph system is in the process of being altered.  Existing glyphs may not be fully supported or functional.</li>
<li>Many item and class stats have been changed or removed.</li>
<li>Rage has been normalized.</li>
<li>Spells and abilities no longer have multiple ranks and now  scale with character level.</li>
<li>A first pass on new talent trees has been implemented.
<ul>
<li>Each specialization has been reduced to a 31-point talent tree.</li>
<li>Players will now get a total of 41 talent points to spend.</li>
<li>31 points must be spent in the primary specialization tree  before any points can be placed in additional trees.</li>
<li>Players will be asked to choose a specialization at level  10. Doing so will result in the unlocking of a spell or ability unique  to that specialization, as well as one or more passive bonuses.</li>
<li>While this is a first pass on all of the talent trees,  death knight, druid, paladin, warlock, Arcane mage, and Assassination  rogue trees are not as far along as other specializations.</li>

</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Death Knights</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>A dedicated tanking tree has been implemented.</li>
<li>The way in which runes recharge has changed.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Druids</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>A new Eclipse mechanic has been added for druids. The feature is  functional, but the interface art is still a work in-progress.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Hunters</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Five pets can now be stored with the hunter at all times. Any  one of these five pets can be summoned via the Call Pet ability.</li>
<li>Focus has replaced mana as a new resource.</li>
<li>Hunters now start with a pet at level 1.</li>
<li>The Stable will now store 20 pets. If a pet is moved into  the Stable, its talents are wiped.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Paladins</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>We are in the process of overhauling many paladin talents,  spells and abilities. Expect updates in upcoming patches.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Warlocks</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Soul Shards have been removed from the game as items. Instead,  they now exist as a resource system necessary for using, or altering the  mechanics of certain spells.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>User Interface</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>The ability to use third-party addons has been temporarily  disabled for the test environment.</li>
<li>The Arena Teams pane has been improved.</li>
<li>Auto-quests have been added to the game. Players will  automatically be given an auto-quest by entering specific areas in the  game world. This alert will appear distinctly in the Objectives pane via  the Advanced Quest Tracking feature. These quests will still be given  to players with full Quest Logs, but will count toward the 25 total  allotted quests if the log is not full.</li>
<li>The Character pane has been redesigned. Character stats can  now be shown or hidden via the Show All Details/Hide All Details button  on the bottom left. When shown, all character stats will be visible in a  window to the right of the pane. Stat sections can be reorganized by  clicking and dragging them up or down the pane.</li>
<li>The Professions panes now have more filtering and search  functionality, as well as buttons to easily link recipes in the chat  frame.</li>
<li>Many of the yellow System Messages that would display in  the chat frame when leveling up have been removed.</li>
<li>New text animations now alert players as they level up,  also providing information on when new talents, spells and abilities are  available.</li>
<li>Professions and Class Trainers windows have been altered to  more clearly display available and upcoming purchases.</li>
<li>The Spellbook interface has been improved for greater  ease-of-use and visual appeal.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Graphics</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Experimental support for DX11 (can be enabled by passing  ‘-d3d11’ on the command line or adding SET gxApi &#8220;d3d11&#8243; to the  Config.WTF file).</li>
<li>OpenGL Hardware Cursor support (can be enabled on the Video  Resolution Panel).</li>
<li>Improved water and lava rendering system (enabled by the  Liquid Detail slider on the Video Effects Panel)
<ul>
<li>0 = Classic Water</li>
<li>1 = New Water (fake reflections)</li>
<li>2 = New Water (ocean has real reflection for terrain)</li>
<li>These values are likely to change during Beta.</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li>Dynamic Sunshafts effect (enabled by the Sunshafts option  on the Video Effects Panel).</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Known Issues</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Selecting high Liquid Detail when using Geforce 6 &amp; 7 series  video cards will currently prevent lava and water from rendering  properly. You can temporarily restore liquid to the world by reducing  the Liquid Detail setting via the Video Effects Panel, or by typing  “waterDetail 0” in your Config.WTF file.</li>
</ul>

<p>Beta testing will commence in the near future. (How soon? I can not  disclose the exact date, I can only say &#8230;&#8230; really very soon!) When  4.0 Beta launch, you will need an US client to connect to the beta  servers. Players without the US client, you must first download the US  version of World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King.</span><span style="color: #003366;"></p>
<p>I would also like to remind you that there are many players who did not  send their contact information to confirm their beta invitation. Please  submit your information before June 23rd or your Beta invitation will be  given to another player.</span></em></p>

<p><span style="color: #0000ff;">We&#8217;re continuing to refine the raid progression paths in Cataclysm, and  we&#8217;d like to share some of those changes with you today. Please enjoy!</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff;">The  first of the refinements being made is that we&#8217;re combining all raid  sizes and difficulties into a single lockout. Unlike today, 10- and  25-player modes of a single raid will share the same lockout. You can  defeat each raid boss once per week per character. In other words, if  you wanted to do both a 10- and 25-person raid in a single week, you’d  need to do so on two different characters. Normal versus Heroic mode  will be chosen on a per-boss basis in Cataclysm raids, the same way it  works in Icecrown Citadel. Obviously the raid lockout change doesn&#8217;t  apply in pure Icecrown terms though, as this change goes hand-in-hand  with a few other changes to raid progression in Cataclysm.</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff;">We&#8217;re  designing and balancing raids so that the difficulty between 10- and  25-player versions of each difficulty will be as close as possible to  each other as we can achieve. That closeness in difficulty also means  that we&#8217;ll have bosses dropping the same items in 10- and 25-player  raids of each difficulty. They&#8217;ll have the same name and same stats;  they are in fact the exact same items. Choosing Heroic mode will drop a  scaled-up version of those items. Our hope is that players will be able  to associate bosses with their loot tables and even associate specific  artwork with specific item names to a far greater extent than today.</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff;"><strong>Dungeon  Difficulty and Rewards</strong></span></p>
<ul style="margin-top: 0pt; margin-bottom: 0pt;">
<li><span style="color: #0000ff;">10 and 25-player (Normal difficulty) &#8212; Very  similar to one another in difficulty; drop the exact same items as each  other.</span></li>
<li><span style="color: #0000ff;">10 and 25-player (Heroic difficulty) &#8212; Very similar to  one another in difficulty; drop more powerful versions of the  normal-difficulty items.</span></li>
</ul>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff;">We of course recognize the  logistical realities of organizing larger groups of people, so while the  loot quality will not change, 25-player versions will drop a higher  quantity of loot per player (items, but also badges, and even gold),  making it a more efficient route if you&#8217;re able to gather the people.  The raid designers are designing encounters with these changes in mind,  and the class designers are making class changes to help make 10-person  groups easier to build. Running 25-player raids will be a bit more  lucrative, as should be expected, but if for a week or two you need to  do 10s because half the guild is away on vacation, you can do that and  not suffer a dramatic loss to your ability to get the items you want.</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff;">We  recognize that very long raids can be a barrier for some players, but  we also want to provide enough encounters for the experience to feel  epic. For the first few raid tiers, our plan is to provide multiple  smaller raids. Instead of one raid with eleven bosses, you might have a  five-boss raid as well as a six-boss raid. All of these bosses would  drop the same item level gear, but the dungeons themselves being  different environments will provide some variety in location and visual  style, as well as separate raid lockouts. Think of how you could raid  Serpentshrine Cavern and Tempest Keep separately, but you might still  want to hit both every week.</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff;">We do like how gating bosses over  time allows the community to focus on individual encounters instead of  just racing to the end boss, so we’re likely to keep that design moving  forward. We don&#8217;t plan to impose attempt limitations again though,  except maybe in cases of rare optional bosses (like Algalon). Heroic  mode may not be open from day one, but will become available after  defeating normal mode perhaps as little as once or twice.</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff;">In  terms of tuning, we want groups to be able to jump into the first raids  pretty quickly, but we also don’t want them to overshadow the Heroic  5-player dungeons and more powerful quest rewards. We’ll be designing  the first few raid zones assuming that players have accumulated some  blue gear from dungeons, crafted equipment, or quest rewards. In  general, we want you and your guild members to participate in and enjoy  the level up experience.</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff;">We design our raids to be accessible to a  broad spectrum of players, so we want groups to be able to make the  decision about whether to attempt the normal or Heroic versions of raids  pretty quickly. The goal with all of these changes is to make it as  much of a choice or effect of circumstance whether you raid as a group  of 10 or as a group of 25 as possible. Whether you&#8217;re a big guild or a  small guild the choice won&#8217;t be dependent on what items drop, but  instead on what you enjoy the most.</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff;">We realize that with any  changes to progression pathways there are going to be questions. We&#8217;re  eagerly awaiting any that we may have left unanswered. To the comments!</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff;">Here are some clarifications to a few common questions we&#8217;re seeing.</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff;"><em>Regarding how the raid dungeons will share the  same lockout. This means that you cannot do separate instances in the  same week. If you defeat an encounter in 10 player normal mode then you  are locked to the 10 player mode of that dungeon for that week and can  flip between 10 player normal and 10 player heroic on a per boss basis  (assuming heroic is available). In this scenario you cannot do the 25  player version. Is this correct?</em></span></p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff;">Correct. There should  be no circumstances under which you kill a boss more than once per week  on the same character. However, in the same way that you can decide on a  per-boss basis whether to try normal vs. hard mode, we might allow you  to change between 10 and 25 on a per-encounter basis for additional  flexibility. If you started a raid in 25-player mode and then found that  you couldn’t get everyone together later in the week, you might be able  to downsize the next few bosses to 10-player.</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff;"><em>Will legendary items be available through 10  player dungeons? How about special mounts like Invincible?</em></span></p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff;">In  some of these specific cases, the answer is that we just don’t know  yet. We’re going to have to walk a fine line between dropping the same  items in both 10- and 25-player modes, versus still offering something  extra for the 25s. If we over-reward the 25s, then players who like  10-player raiding will still feel compelled to find more warm bodies. If  we don’t provide any extra incentive for 25s, then some players may  stop playing with their friends in order to avoid the extra organization  required for a large raid.</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff;">Overall, our goal is that you make  the decision between whether to raid with 10 players or 25 players based  on what you find fun and not because of the reward structure.</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff;">For  perspective, it might help to look back at how we changed lockouts and  hard modes on every single raid tier of Wrath of the Lich King to see  what felt right and try to fix problems that arose from previous tiers.  After seeing the first tier of Cataclysm raiding, we may decide to  adjust our design for the next tier.</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff;"><em>How many pieces of loot will drop for 10 and 25 player modes  respectively?</em></span></p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff;">When we say “25 should drop more loot,”  we’re just sharing a philosophy. You shouldn’t assume that this means  that 10-player modes will drop 1 item or that 25-player modes will drop 6  items, or whatever. We haven’t finalized how much loot will drop, but  our general goal is that 25s should drop more to help make up for some  of the logistical cost.</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff;"><em>Will  achievements be broken down by 10/25 modes? Will realm first  achievements/titles be only for 25s? Will meta-achievement mounts be  available for both versions still?</em></span></p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff;">There will just be  raid achievements, not 10- vs. 25-player versions in most cases. The  achievement won’t care if you complete it in 10s or 25s. If we do  meta-achievement mounts, it’s possible we’d still have different colors  of mounts, or maybe even different mounts; but for some players that  might mean that 25s feels mandatory again, which would be a potential  problem. This is the kind of thing we’re going to have to consider  carefully, and again, we might try a few different implementations  before sticking with something we like.</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff;">We’re also not sure about  realm first achievements or titles. We don’t want to encourage, say,  25-player focused guilds to run a 10-player raid instead because they  think that will get them the ream first title faster. One potential  solution is you can earn a realm first title in 10 or 25, but not both.  These types of achievements also serve as great content for guild  achievements.</span></p>

<p>Once a great Highborne city housing some of the most revered night elves  of Kalimdor, Vashj&#8217;ir was swallowed by the Great Sea in the Sundering  and thought to be lost forever. Queen Azshara, formerly a beloved leader  of the Highborne, escaped death in the depths of the sea when the Well  of Eternity imploded. Such salvation came at a great cost, as the queen  and many of her fellow Highborne were forever transformed into the  monstrous naga, doomed to wander the seas for thousands of years. Their  existence mostly remains a mystery to the peoples of modern Azeroth,  though the Earthen Ring has learned of Azshara&#8217;s naga seizing Vashj&#8217;ir  for an unknown purpose as the cries of the elements echo across Azeroth  from the Abyss.</p>
<p><strong> The Sunken City</strong></p>
<p>Vashj&#8217;ir is a level 78-82 zone in World of Warcraft: Cataclysm where  players will be called to explore the depths of the Great Sea and stop  the naga from seizing immeasurable power from the realm of Neptulon the  Tidehunter. This expansive underwater zone will feature an unprecedented  fight for survival against the naga overwhelming the area, several new  quest hubs &#8212; including Alliance and Horde naval ships and submarines &#8212;  all-new underwater travel and combat mechanics, several pocketed  undersea caves free from water&#8217;s grip, two new five-player dungeons  (Throne of the Tides and Abyssal Maw), and the first-ever opportunity to  explore the remains of the once-majestic city of Vashj&#8217;ir!</p>
<p><strong> Bottled Distress Message Found Adrift at Sea</strong></p>
<p><em>Need your help. Time is short. I&#8217;m held captive in what I hope to be  a nightmare.</p>
<p>Enjoying the ocean air just days ago. We were determined to control key  trade routes through victory at sea over the Horde. Their fleet came  into our scopes. Our world became the deafening sound of battle, the  smell of gunpowder, and the feeling of fear. Looking back now, though,  that wasn&#8217;t real fear.</p>
<p>We weren&#8217;t alone in those waters. Our naval warfare attracted attention  and rendered us prey. With our vessel already torn apart and taking on  water, we saw a tremendous creature rise from the depths and shatter the  hull, sucking us down to the sea floor. It all happened so fast. I was  quick to tread the waters, hoping to regroup with any survivors I could  find through a dense garden of kelp, constantly gasping for a chance  breath. That&#8217;s when the onslaught began. From all directions swarms of  brutal naga swept through and captured a great many of us. Beaten near  to death, I awoke in agony, bound in chains.</p>
<p>And here I still sit. I can only describe our prison as very big and  somehow very much alive. We&#8217;re in the hands of the naga now. Surviving  crewmates in better condition than me are driven into slave labor.</p>
<p>One escaped. Thomas. He didn&#8217;t make it far before I saw him dragged  back. Before being forced into labor, he spoke in a panic about some  large shell protecting this living prison, expansive night elf ruins in  the distance, strange naga rituals underway, and sea vrykul battling our  captors. He made little sense. Could be mad. Or I could be mad to hope  vrykul are fighting to free us.</p>
<p>Prison patrols out again. Send word to Stormwind. Sunken city far from  extinct. Naga plotting something horrific. Please help.</em></p>
